Home infusion FAQ
Common Questions
How can I learn to do my own home infusions?
Learning to manage your home infusion therapy is a gradual process that begins in your hospital room, with your caregiver by your side.
Once you’re home, an Intramed Plus Nurse Clinician, trained in IV therapy, will guide you through our infusion services. They’ll assess your medical condition and the prescribed therapy, ensuring you have the necessary support for a safe and successful experience at home. You’ll receive clear, step-by-step instructions for easy reference, and there will be opportunities to practice the procedures you’ll be performing.
Is my physician still in charge of my therapy?
Absolutely, your physician remains in charge of your care, whether you’re in the hospital or at home. They will monitor your progress and schedule follow-up or regular visits. Our team of Clinical Pharmacists collaborates closely with your physician to ensure you receive the right medications in the correct doses. It’s crucial to adhere to the specified infusion schedule as directed by your physician and not miss any doses.
What should I do if my medication changes?
If there are any changes to your medication, our Intramed Plus pharmacist and nurse will promptly reach out to you. They will coordinate the necessary adjustments to your therapy and, if required, schedule additional training sessions to keep you informed and supported.
Who covers/pays for home infusion therapy?
Home infusion therapy is often covered by most commercial insurance companies, managed care companies, and Medicaid. However, it’s important to note that Medicare has limited coverage for home infusion therapies.
Once your physician prescribes the medication, and we have information about all your insurance providers, an Intramed Plus Patient Account Coordinator from our reimbursement department will assess your insurance coverage, copay amounts, and out-of-pocket responsibilities. This individual will keep an eye on your account, handling billing with your medical insurance providers for the services we provide. Any out-of-pocket costs will be communicated to you, ensuring transparency in the process.
Can I continue my infusion therapy while traveling?
Our infusion therapies are specifically designed to be administered safely and conveniently at home or work. Most patients can resume their usual activities with minimal restrictions. If you plan to travel, please let your Intramed Plus nurse or pharmacist know about your intentions so that they can ensure a smooth experience for you.
