Our Clinical Team


Taking responsibility for the education, training and coordination of the home infusion therapy sets Intramed Plus apart. Our nurse clinicians provide all education and training, oversee the successful first dose administered in the home, and are available to support the patient throughout their infusion experience to ensure patient comfort and successful completion of the prescribed therapy.

Clinical Pharmacy Services

Each patient's therapy is managed by a certified Home Infusion Pharmacist who verifies the physician's order and coordinates the start of therapy. Our pharmacy team works closely with physicians in developing a treatment plan tailored specifically for each patient. Our pharmacists will monitor the patient's progress throughout the therapy and coordinate all clinical findings with the physician, Home Health or Hospice Agency, and the patient.


Our experienced Clinical Dietitians are integral part of our Home Nutrition Support Team and leads our efforts to provide a patient-tailored nutrition plan in meeting the patient's nutrition needs. Each patient is assessed and monitored for progress with their nutritional plan. Our Team works collaboratively with the patient's physician with updated assessments and recommendations for guidance in meeting the patient's needs and goals.

Accurate Billing & Patient Reimbursement

Each patient is assigned a personal Reimbursement Specialist to discuss financial responsibilities and details of medical coverage benefits. We take pride in our proactive and accurate reimbursement services. Intramed Plus is a recognized infusion provider with all major insurance companies and managed care networks servicing South Carolina and bordering states.


Each patient is assigned a dedicated Patient Representative who contacts them weekly to assist the patient in ordering medications and supplies needed for the next delivery. Each delivery will be coordinated and delivered by a trained Intramed Plus driver. All of our drivers carry an Intramed Plus photo ID and call prior to arriving at a patient's home.


Varner R. Richards, Pharm.D.CEO/Owner


Dr. Varner R. Richards, President and CEO of Intramed Plus, Inc., received his Doctor of Pharmacy in 1980 from the College of Pharmacy, University of Nebraska Medical Center, Omaha, NE. He went on to complete a two-year General Pharmacy Residency at the University of Kentucky Medical Center, Lexington, KY, 1980-1982. Dr. Richards served as the Assistant Director for Clinical Pharmacy Services at Richland Memorial Hospital, 1982-1988, and while there, initiated their Nutrition Support Service, Decentralized Pharmacy Services, Pain Management Service and Pharmacy Home Infusion Services.

In 1988, Dr. Richards ventured out and provided consultative services for a National Home Infusion Provider for 3 years. This opportunity created the segway for the development and launching of Intramed Plus, a South Carolina Home Infusion Provider. Dr. Richards has been involved in the home infusion industry for more than 30 years.

Dr. Richards has served on the Board of Directors for National Home Infusion Association (NHIA) and on the Kennedy Pharmacy Innovation Center Advisory Committee. In April 2021, he was awarded the industry's highest honor from the NHIA, the Gene Graves Lifetime Achievement Award. This award is presented each year to an individual who has dedicated significant time, energy, and resources to working on behalf of patients and the home infusion industry.

Dr. Richards remains actively involved in many aspects of Pharmacy, from education to government to professional associations and organizations. He is an effective promoter of positive healthcare options for patients and all in his community.
